Effect of Growth Regulators on Growth and Flowering of Potted Camellia

Abstract
Potential of growth regulators to produce compact camellia was examined in two potted camellia cultivars, ¢¥Beniotome¢¥ (double flower) and ¢¥Dongbaek¢¥ (single flower and native to Korea). Foliar spray of BA, MH, paclobutrazol, ancymidol and dikegulac effectively decreased the plant growth resulting in the reduction of plant height and width regardless of cultivars but no distinct effect of chlormequat was found. Especially, BA and paclobutrazol at the concentration of 100 to 200 ppm and 250 to 1,000 ppm, respectively, increased the rate of flowering and size of flower. However, MH and chlormequat decreased the rate of flowering and ancimydol significantly reduced the number of flower buds and flower size. Paclobutrazol at the rate of 1,000 ppm showed most effective to produce compact form and increase the number of flower buds of potted camellia.
